Asset Integrity Management
Online | Face-to-face | In-company
Overview
By attending this course, you will deepen your understanding of the key elements required for effective asset integrity management in high-hazard process industries. Covering a broad range of interconnected topics, the course will help you identify potential risks and develop strategies to manage and mitigate them effectively.
The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) defines asset integrity as “the ability of an asset to perform its required function effectively and efficiently while protecting health, safety, and the environment.” In simpler terms – it’s about keeping it in the pipe.
Delivering asset integrity is more than just a technical challenge for engineers and maintenance teams. The HSE emphasises that leadership, competent people, effective systems and processes, and appropriate resources all play vital roles in maintaining integrity throughout an asset’s lifecycle.
Through case studies, exercises, and group discussions, this course explores good practice and current thinking in asset integrity management. You will gain insights into key considerations spanning the full lifecycle – from design, material selection, construction, and commissioning through to operational discipline, ageing mechanisms, management of change, and ensuring effective oversight.
The course will also focus on the process safety consequences of poor asset integrity and highlight the key links between asset integrity management and other process safety management elements.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, delegates will understand:
-
The consequences of poor asset integrity management what can go wrong and lessons learned from industry incidents
-
The key building blocks of an effective asset integrity management system and how these align with the IChemE process safety framework
-
The causes of asset failure at different stages of the asset lifecycle, with a particular focus on the management of ageing plant
-
Practical strategies to manage and reduce the risk of asset integrity failure.
Who will benefit
This course is designed for managers, engineers, and safety professionals responsible for, or involved in, asset integrity management. It will help participants enhance their ability to identify asset integrity hazards and risks, and to develop robust management systems that reduce overall business risk and improve operational reliability.
