Tom conducts experimental and financial modelling research relating to the process engineering of biomass and filtration problems. He is the co-ordinator of the Chemical Process Engineering Major at QUT and serves as a committee member of the Queensland Joint Chemical Engineering Committee (IChemE).

He is a winner of The Caltex Award for excellence in chemical engineering education and the Sugar Research Development Corporation Award.
