Shoby Simon
Shoby is a Chartered Chemical Engineer with over a decade of experience spanning LNG, hydrogen, upstream, and low carbon technologies. Shoby is currently serving as an opportunity evaluation manager at Shell, where she leads commercial structuring, valuation and strategic prioritisation for technology portfolios. Her work focuses on shaping investible opportunities, building strategic alliances, and developing commercialisation pathways aligned with the energy transition. Prior to this, Shoby held technical and operational roles, delivering business impact across multiple regions and developing global processes and frameworks.
Beyond her corporate role, she has been an active contributor to the IChemE for several years. She serves as an IChemE Professional Reviewer (TRQ Assessor), supporting the professional formation of chemical engineers seeking Chartered status. Since 2023, she has also taken on the role of Treasurer of IChemE Netherlands, where she has been instrumental in revitalising the local member network.
Shoby has spearheaded three technical and networking events in collaboration with Shell, helping re-establish IChemE’s footprint in the Netherlands. Most recently, she led the organisation and sponsorship of the NXPlorers Course at the Energy Transition Centre Amsterdam (Shell), bringing together industry and university students to engage on systems thinking and sustainability.
Shoby is passionate about mentoring, capability building and strengthening our professional community. Over the years, she has supported early career engineers globally through Shell’s networks, the Process Engineering Leadership Board and mentoring programmes.
Her motivation for serving the Institution is rooted in a commitment to advancing the profession, developing future talent and promoting chemical engineering’s role in society, particularly as we navigate the transition to a more sustainable energy system
